Incredible story on the vigilante influencers of India who use Facebook and YouTube to build clout from beating up Muslims: "The more violent the content, the more reach and engagement it would get" https://www.washingtonpost.com/world/2023/09/26/india-monu-manesar-viligante-social-media/ @pranshuverma

@drewharwell @pranshuverma Meanwhile, people in Europe and North America claim that "social media platforms should not censor, the Marketplace of Ideas will cause the good ideas to win out!"

This was a terrible idea even without "let's beat up minorities for views!"

@drewharwell @pranshuverma Having traveled briefly to India, with many friends and colleagues from South Asia here in the USA as well as there, I'm desperately trying to understand this a citizen of the world.

I have to admit I'm not making much progress beyond the last line of a famous movie: "Forget it, Jake. It's Chinatown."

Reading this is easier to understand why India is a rogue state conducting extrajudicial killings on sovereign territory of democratic allies.

ArpComics,

@drewharwell @pranshuverma And it’s fine by Fb. The world would be a better place without Fb.
