Marie,

I still find captchas really bothersome and annoying.

Captcha: here have normal text that is messed up and image match-up
me: okay that is alright

robots learn all of it

Captcha: here have 5 puzzles and if you fail one have fun making 2x more
me: alright now it is getting ridicoulous

robot learns puzzles

Captcha: here have AI generated images that we don't even know if they are correct to the theme
me: piss off

@Marie That reminds me, I need to do something about the captcha I've slapped on my guestbook. Maybe a honeypot field instead. Dunno.

Marie,

@sarajw That actually sounds like an interesting idea :neocat_3c:

@Marie I use Netlify forms currently, so I'd be doing this: https://docs.netlify.com/forms/spam-filters/#honeypot-field

Marie,

@sarajw Just looked at it this cycles back in to the fact with how it's presented that bots could also just learn about them.

In my opinion captchas just need to be generally either hidden and track more data than most people probably want or basically need to be fully replaced by better stuff.

@Marie Yeah none of it's ideal. Netlify also catch spam with an Akismet filter - but it wasn't getting everything. And I moderate the incoming messages anyway!

@Marie I wonder if I could just roll my own instead, I wonder how much trickery I can do in just HTML and CSS which remains accessible but fools bots...
