Illustration for the Dutch ComputerTotaal magazine, for an article about Stichting BREIN, translating to "BRAIN Foundation", a foundation funded by publishers to battle digital piracy.

I don't remember the exact scope of the article, but I guess the foundation threatened legal action to kids who copied CD-ROM games.

@daniel 😉 I just looked at the CD-ROM and remembered that I made a custom CD shader in 3ds Max, with an iridescent effect.

@metin It looks really good! I know that rendering CDs is a challenging task.

I remember that Nvidia has developed an impressive approach for such cases based on wave optics. @twominutepapers made a nice video about it:

@daniel Wow, looks great. I love optics. Luxcore Render does an impressive, physically very accurate job in that aspect.

For realistic CD(-ROM) renderings I used to cheat with a photo texture of a CD-ROM. 😉

I'll post an example of that in a minute…
