@artfulrobot@thelastpsion I'm interested in zellij, but I'm wary of switching for the same reason I keep using Neovim instead of Helix: tmux and vim are available anywhere. I'm afraid that I'll quickly run into trouble with muscle memory, because I often need to log onto servers where I can't just install my favorite set of tools. 😩
A set up script that does git pull and checks/fetches latest neovim, zellij, lazygit + others; and replaces various dot-files with symlinks to files in the git repo.
This way all my machines have the same setup and config 🙂
But yeah, it's about productivity, and churn is the opposite of that.
I usually do a little, wait a bit till I have some time and brain space and then try a new plugin/feature.
@artfulrobot@thelastpsion I use chezmoi for that. Having the same set of tools and configuration on all my machines has been an insane boost in productivity and especially the fact that I can set everything up in just a few minutes. 😁
@artfulrobot
To expand on what I mentioned earlier: I still can't do that on all machines.
The ones out of my control are part of our automated deployment. The tools I use are specific to my workflow, so it wouldn't make sense to make these part of the deployments.
Sure, I can install everything later, but these are ephemeral machines that usually only exist for a few hours. Once I've gotten everything I need, I'll redeploy a new setup. @thelastpsion
@artfulrobot
Ultimately it comes down to time investment. If I just spend a few minutes on a machine, there's no point in getting all my tooling and configuration installed, which will take somewhere between 5 and 10 minutes on the first run.
So I'm keeping fit in the default tooling and keybindings. 🙂 @thelastpsion
