Alderney wildlife charity launches seawater survey

An Alderney wildlife charity is launching a survey to monitor the long-term health of seawater around the island.

The Alderney Wildlife Trust’s (AWT) citizen science project has been created with a grant from Sea-Changers, a UK based marine charity.

The funding has been used to buy equipment which members of the community could use to measure things like sea surface temperature, water pH and salinity.

The charity said seawater chemistry played an important role in the health and distribution of sea creatures and habitats.

Long-term monitoring could help identify natural trends and the influence of climate change.
