Few months back Teams stopped supporting , and their nasty argument was "you can use our web app from your browser". Today I got this in my browser which is .

Unfortunately I have to use Microsoft Teams because my university and the audience all have contract with Microsoft 🙄

Yeah, keep fooling yourself that :microsoft: ❤️ :linux:

@Mehrad Will it work if you spoof user-agent?

@alphasixtyfive
Don't know. Didn't have time to try. I was already ~30 secs late to the meeting. Perhaps it does until at some point it doesn't (?)

Microsoft might not be all that evil, but these things they do really doesn't help their coding or management credibility.

Today I installed Vivaldi on that machine. Next time I will refuse to give a talk in anything that doesn't have Linux client. The organizers should either acknowledge this request or find someone else.

Uraael,

@Mehrad Microsoft barely loves Teams, never mind Linux.

@Mehrad It's just so patchy! I feel your pain. I'm using teams through firefox on ubuntu. But a month ago teams claimed I could only use a chromium based browser. It was patchy for a week or so, but now solid again on FF.

I'm using a different weblink, which may help: https://teams.microsoft.com/v2/

@mikerspencer @Mehrad For me the teams linux app still mostly works (I think there's some graphics driver glitches) but the web version seems fine with firefox for me.

Which linux app do you use? They do not provide .deb or .rpm nor any Flatpak, Snap or AppImage. They used to have a Flatpak, but they discontinued it some months ago.

@mikerspencer
Did do any User Agent modification? I had to install Vivaldi to get the damn thing working for the meeting.

@Mehrad I discovered this a week ago. I plan on trying Chromium.

ahoyboyhoy,

@scm @Mehrad I'm fortunate to not be required to use Teams, but Chromium flatpak does work very well for me generally

@ahoyboyhoy @Mehrad Thankfully, it's a rare occurrence for me. Still, I often have to use Zoom 🙄 A least there's still a GNU/Linux client for that.

ahoyboyhoy,

@scm @Mehrad I use the web client for Zoom when I must join

Mehrad,

@ahoyboyhoy
Yes, Zoom has its own Linux issues (broken SSO auth), but at least the web app is fully functional on both X11 and Wayland as far as my experience goes.

kopio,

@Mehrad Use Windows VM on your Linux?

Mehrad,

@kopio Over my cold dead body 😬 no Windows binary will be processed by the CPU that I paid for. 😉

@Mehrad Scummy move by them. Maybe you can try a user agent switcher addon or Flatpak build if you still need to use it.

Mehrad,
@Mehrad@fosstodon.org avatar

@met They used to have an official flatpak, but few months back they sent an email and announced that they are removing it. The current Flatpak is done by a guy as a personal project:

https://flathub.org/apps/com.github.IsmaelMartinez.teams_for_linux

My issue with this Flatpak is that for an app that needs access to lots of things on my computer, I'm a bit hesitant to install third-party Flatpak. This is because I cannot use Flatseal to disable permissions and still have a function Teams.

Ah, like most of Linux, then. 😜
