Let’s just say I could really do with a big bowl of potato gems right now.

Family day out today. Went to IKEA looking for random stuff.

Really proud of the kids cracking jokes at people I would make fun of.

Does it sound mean? It does.

Was it funny at the time? Hell yeah.

Did the people deserve it? Maybe…but it was funny.

Am I ashamed? Not really.

Ikea is like the aussie “people of walmart” 😀🧟‍♀️

Alright I’ve mostly got the frame of my travel down pat - still need to work out accom for the latter half of my trip, but at least I know how long to spend in each general area. Still yet to organise travel sim and travel insurance, although my friend is very generously lending me their rather primo backpacking rucksack that I can use for this trip, otherwise I was looking at having to possibly fork out for that too (my own daypack is on its last legs and a suitcase would be a bitch)

I’ve spent the last 3 hours whipping up some curries to tide me over till I leave. Tidied the kitchen, had a shower, ate dinner, and am just wiped out now. Brain overloaded from all the research. Will look through it tomorrow morning with fresh eyes. Over the last couple weeks I’ve noticed that I find it easier to put a natural stop to things rather than fixating/hyperfocusing well into the night.

Maybe at long last I’m getting better at pacing myself… that or I’m getting old and tired more easily. Am definitely taking a cue to have plenty of “do nothing” periods slotted into my travel schedule.

Thornburywitch,
@Thornburywitch@aussie.zone avatar

Yep, scheduling in down/chillax time is essential for travel. As is chillax time at home.

Seagoon_,
@Seagoon_@aussie.zone avatar

Visit the deer at Nara. That is very relaxing. 🦌

Force_majeure123,

Home from second social occasion in as many nights. Extremely rare for me. Had fun both nights. Had two drinks night one, three drinks tonight and called it early rather than carry on as I could’ve. To continue would mean I needed to get quite drunk indeed because my social energy was so low and I was bored. I’m glad I made the sensible choice

StudChud,

Turning these cardboard things from the tea I bought into bookmarks. Not the best colouring effort, but better than blank :3

That’s pretty!

RustyRaven,
@RustyRaven@aussie.zone avatar

Yay, I won tattslotto! $8.85, over half of what I spent back 🤣

Now to decide whether to blow it all on another ticket…

Cendana,

$8.85 minus what you spent.

Then if you don’t win, you won’t end up negative.

RustyRaven,
@RustyRaven@aussie.zone avatar

I’m already negative, the ticket was just over $15. Even more negative if you add in the powerball ticket. So I’m not so much winning as lossing less badly at this point.

Seagoon_, (edited )
@Seagoon_@aussie.zone avatar

My best was $8000 and that was in 1982. I have bought only one ticket since. ( in today’s money that’s 34,000, still not enough for a meaningful deposit )

Gibsonisafluffybutt,

If anyone here is into old school doom style games but wants something a bit more modern, check out Prodeus.

Amazing game! Same frantic pace as old school doom.

StudChud,

Oooooooo ty for the recc!!

Every now and then I return to Doom Eternal, and realise I have no fps skills. It’s so hectic even on lower settings.

Made ramen. Watching Ponyo. Sadly no ham.

MeanElevator,
@MeanElevator@aussie.zone avatar

I have Ponyo on Blu-ray.

One of the few movies I own

StudChud,

Giving my partner whiplash with my Everything playlist. Tenacious D, followed by Nickel Creek, followed by The Rembrants, followed by MCR.

The poor man is having an aneurysm listening to it. The playlist title isn’t a lie, don’t know what to tell him 😂

RustyRaven,

I’ve just put fresh sheets on the bed (with Mr Woof’s “help”) and am looking forward to bedtime. I’ve got my favourite jungle print doona cover on and also have my leopard print flannelette pjs out ready.

melbourne_wanderer,

so far, COVID symptoms rather mild, but appear to have lost my sense of taste. As one who loves to cook, this is distressing. Hope it returns quickly.

MeanElevator,
@MeanElevator@aussie.zone avatar

Hugs and firm handshakes hoping you get better.

I need you to stay alive, capish?

melbourne_wanderer,

understood!

Pilk,
@Pilk@aussie.zone avatar

I post this for everyone, but super strong distinctive scents might still active your sense of smell. Quick, sharp inhales of things like orange peel, strong curry and essential oils can work. Also, the combo of sour and sweet in things like freshly cut oranges still activates your taste buds kinda like you’re getting the full experience. I found all these really comforting while waiting for smell to return.

ajsadauskas,
@ajsadauskas@aus.social avatar

@Pilk @melbourne_wanderer Wifey had COVID about a month ago. It was really bad for a week, including intense migraines, but then cleared up.

About a week after most of her symptoms cleared, she began regaining her sense of taste.

A couple of weeks after that, we were in a queue outdoors and she complained: "Ugh I can't stand the smell of cigarettes. Wait — I can smell the smokers! This is amazing! I CAN SMELL THE SMOKERS!"

Your mileage may vary, but for her it was mostly back within a month.

melbourne_wanderer,

A month! eep.

melbourne_wanderer,

I’ve found that I can “sense” citrus, salt and chilli. Not quite what I’m used to, but better than nothing!

Gibsonisafluffybutt,

2 hours of video equals 5ish hours of study. I’m done for the evening thank fuck. My hand hurts from taking notes lol

Also for your amusement:

StudChud,

Slay, King! 👑

Gibson is just ensuring you never forget the importancd of TP, for you and her :D

Gibsonisafluffybutt,

She’s a great reminder lol

StudChud,

🎼And I’m tired
Nine hundred sit-ups a day
I’m painting my hair the color of mud
Mud okay?
I’m tired, tired
Anybody care what I say?
No!

Got the telescope out. Got very satisfying woah’s from the kids.

Edit. Slight edit adding some sharpness as it seems the eyepiece was a little smudged. But otherwise straight through the eyepiece with my phone. Running with my recent Android Auto Wireless dongle AliExpress win, I’ve ordered what I hope to be a mount for my phone so I can do some proper long exposures using the tracking unit…

Seagoon_,
@Seagoon_@aussie.zone avatar

Why can’t you see any stars?

StudChud,

This, I think, is the Moon’s terminator. The boundary of what’s lit up by sunlight and what’s not in the sunlight. So this is just all Moon, with no night sky visible.

To take pictures of the stars, you would need a camera on a really long exposure, at the very least. They’re so very faint; even then they wouldn’t look too different to how we see them with our eyes.

It’s hard enough trying to take a picture of planets past Saturn/Uranus. They’re so distant. You’d need what astronomers use to see any details. So far away, and so faint.

Gibsonisafluffybutt,

Mate I’m middle aged-ish and I’m all woah over here lol

calhoon2005,
@calhoon2005@aussie.zone avatar

I’ve recently discovered Astronomy Cast… Check it out if you haven’t. Very accessible all things astronomy podcast…and no Neil deGrasse Tyson

Thanks for the heads up!

Always makes me happy to see others with the same idea
