"Sanctuary" by Tomas Honz

An older painting massively reworked. As always when doing personal projects, I drew inspiration from real places that I visited.
This idea came to me long time ago, during visit of a rather famous medieval town in Czech. Sometimes things you see just stick with you and won’t let you sleep until you make something out of them. This was the case.
From the very beginning I wanted to have this calm, meditative, approaching a safe sanctuary feeling. For that reason I chose the central composition that appears symmetric at first but is actually far from it. Both sides are balanced with different shapes making the image stable yet not boring. Choice of lightning and colors was also made with the same purpose in mind
