My new favourite Glasgow ghost sign. It's on Royal Exchange Court and it's a bit faded now, but you can still make most of it out. It reads: Boys found playing at balls or marbles will be handed to the police.
@thisismyglasgow Once Upon A Time it used to be possible for a couple of councillors to get together (in my case me, as portfolio holder, and the opposition leader - thus ensuring unanimous support across the council) and run a pet project to refurbish such signs at very modest cost. The biggest problem was getting permission from the building owners - they wanted cast-iron assurances that they wouldn't be held responsible for future maintenance!
I suspect this may no longer be possible, as central government has probably squeezed council finances to the point where even tiny pet projects can't be afforded.
@TimWardCam yes, unfortunately now such things would have to be arranged by volunteers, which always makes things more complicated and less likely to happen.
