Pet Adoption Down

Probably going to be obvious that I never post here, but the article at https://www.newsweek.com/american-animal-rescue-shelters-breaking-point-1846274]() details the woes animal shelters face after the pandemic. Surprisingly, it isn't the return of COVID pets that is driving the high population of animals languishing in shelters... it is the economy. With no one looking for an extra mouth to feed and vet bills, bringing home a puppy isn't on many agendas.

Just my two cents, but I'd also personally blame stringent requirements for adoption as well. It seems to be common practice for adoption agencies to require fenced in yards and sometimes even elements that discourage workers who work full, 8 hour days from adopting. These are things that a growing number of people likely cant provide. In the wake of it all, breeders - both unethical and ethical - bridge the gap.

sabreW4K3,

What has dog adoption got to do with the Fediverse?

apprehensively_human,

It’s good that you’re trying to bring attention to this, but it’s off topic for this community.

Flamingflowerz,

I thought the Fediverse was like an "all" section, my bad. I'll try posting in the animals section. Would it be better to delete this or leave it up?
