This #documentary is a real time commitment (beware: there's more than one part), but I had never really understood the story of #Nortel before watching.

When everything fell apart, I was a bit too early in my career to care or understand the massive impact this whole mess had on… everything—but especially #Canada.

It (and the larger dotcom bubble burst) did affect the trajectory of my career, but I didn’t realize how much of that probably stemmed from Nortel itself.

I was lucky enough and young enough to avoid having my pension/investments evaporate massively in 2001. “It’s a wonder there’s any red ink left in Canada” was a truly damning statement.

2001 was still a dark time when work dried up and belts tightened. The small company I moved to Montreal to work for closed shop, and I was out of work then. I saw this (work dried up) again in 2008/2009 with the global financial crisis, and it feels—in some ways—like something similar is happening right now.
