Just finished Starling House by Alix E. Harrow and, again, she blows me away with her writing. This is one of my favorite books of 2023.
A perfect fantasy/horror(?) with characters that are so viscerally real you can't help but think that it's fact not fiction. Bonus: strong female protagonist and queer representation.
This is the book that I thought Stephen King's "Fairy Tale" would be, but that one turned out to be a disappointment given the unrealistic protagonist.
