My pessimism for the Affinity acquisition was perhaps too strong yesterday?
Today I got this in my email, four pledges - here is a quote from the first
"If we do offer a subscription, it will only ever be as an option alongside the perpetual model, for those who prefer it. This fits with enabling Canva users to start adopting Affinity."
If they can stick to pledge 1, of always offering a perpetual license, then I can be happy with that.
There was a roar of discontent yesterday, so we all felt pretty pessimistic, I guess.
One thing to remember, the Affinity suite is NOT like what Canva currently offers. Smartest business move would be to keep as many Affinity engineers and staff on as possible to continue their stellar work in maintaining and further developing the gems they just bought.
IMHO, this software is the closest to a real Adobe competitor as we have, so mucking it up would be unwise.
@hamatti Yeah :( I worry that's going to happen again.
Guess we'll just have to wait and see, but I think instead of stagnating in negative vibes I'm just going to keep on keeping on with using the tools for as long as I can.
@christian@hamatti I think these days I just try to have the "enjoy it while it lasts" mindset and try not to get too attached to tools that will either die a hero or live long enough to become the villain.
