Introduce yourself in the replies, your research, collaborations you're looking for or would be open to, and what you enjoy about the non-professional side of scientists on social media! @academicchatter
I'm Megan, a late 50s disabled Masters student looking to do a PhD afterwards... I currently research dormant almond bud development. When I can carve out time I continue interdisciplinary study about carob (Ceratonia siliqua). Despite my age, I could still use a mentor as the majority of my experience was outside academia, in art, music, tech publishing. Love rabblerousers who are trying to make academia more accessible in a non-performative way. Love low and high humor in science.
@ml@academicchatter I’m Stephanie, a recent graduate with a bachelor’s degree in physics. 👩🏻🎓 I have a focused interest in particle accelerators, so I’d love to work with those. Sometimes I feel like I should have gone for an engineering degree instead 😅
Definitely in the market for a job. I’m very technically minded and love learning about machines. I’ve done internships at BNL and SLAC, and have visited the Canadian Light Source a few times (I love it there!)
@ml@academicchatter I am a Postdoc in Palaeobotany working on macroevolution, ecophysiology, and phylogeny of plants, particularly gymnosperms. I am also interested in plant paleoart and how to better communicate the importance of plants to the general public. I am always open to collaborations and connections across disciplines. I also enjoy history, languages, boardgames, wine and cooking.
@ml@academicchatter I am a #philosopher by training but interested in the cognitive sciences & mental health sciences. I collaborate regularly with #psychiatrists & #psychologists on issues such as #belief#agency#SelfKnowledge & #EpistemicJustice. I am professor at the University of Birmingham & currently working as Co-I on two funded projects. My latest book Why #Delusions Matter is out in two days (🥳) & the main message is that we should stop pathologising beliefs.
@ml@academicchatter oh my goodness! Is there a sciencechatter group too? I am a citizen scientist currently involved in forage fish surveys on the east coast of Vancouver Island close to the 50th parallel. Also a conservationist with a keen interest in ecological restoration, particularly of riparian areas.
@ml@academicchatter I just finished my PhD in environmental chemistry where I used lipids to study the biogeochemical cycling of particulate matter on coral reefs. I'm looking to expand my lipid work to maybe to something including trees, vertebrates, or invertebrates. Outside of research I love to cross stitch, read, and take my dogs for hikes!
