I spend hours & hours each week cleaning up after my 2 rabbits - and they're actually quite tidy as far as it goes!

If you're not ready to commit to that kind of cleaning effort for the next 10+ years, stick with chocolate or stuffed toy bunnies this Easter.

@keithius Indeed, around here plenty of people that have them for adoption will choose owners very carefully. Even after "studying" how rabbits "work" way before getting Lua, I was still surprised by things like: how much poop a little thing can make, how much fur they spread, how sneaky they are, and on Lua's specific case how much she likes to chew on things 🙄🤭 and vet bills: since most vets know very little about buns & co. every little thing can get quite expensive.

indeed, regular vets treat dogs & cats (carnivores) almost exclusive and know very little about the delicate digestive process of an herbivore - a good exotics vet is essential, and there aren't that many (and they are generally more expensive than dog/cat vets) - our bunny vet is 37 miles away, takes at least an hour in "good" traffic (and there is rarely "good" traffic in our area)

@RainCityBunnies @keithius We're lucky as we are nearby a big city, so we have a exotics vet center at around 15km (probably like 8miles?). But even among exotics vets many do just birds and reptiles, as buns as a pet are something somewhat new around here.

@ncrav @RainCityBunnies We are very fortunate to have a rabbit-savvy vet just a 15 min drive away; though they aren't big enough to do the hospital level stuff like what we needed for Matilda's dental issues. For that the nearest place is an hour drive away (in good traffic).

2/2 I have had house bunnies longer than you've been alive, and I KNOW when one of my bunnies is in distress and needs immediate attention". (for starters, Tosh wouldn't eat her favorite treat and was sitting in that hunched 'bunny in pain' posture) Mom never went back to that vet. Our new vet is far away but will sell mom Ringers, so mom can give fluids, and also pain & gut meds so mom will have them on hand. Because THAT vet knows that sick bunnies are emergencies.

@RainCityBunnies @keithius We are fortunate that our current vet not only has nice people, but it's actually a small hospital with emergency care specifically for exotics. The previous one did have emergency care but didn't have in-house exotics vets, and since Orcus 🌈 there, we felt we could not return there and found the new one that feels way safer. Gratefully we had not to deal with people that don't care about what bunDad is telling them.
