May bago na palang rules ang "ng/nang" 😭 #Tagalog #Pinoy #meme

wabiwalden,

@teacherbuknoy I have a that back then there was no distinction between and in . Ng was just an of nang to save on ink and space on precious paper. I came up with this idea from noticing that old texts put a on the ng similar to how old texts put a tilde on q to mean que. There were also tildes on mga but sometimes they spelled mga as manga without the tilde.

@wabiwalden i think I'm with you on this. Tagalog orthography wasn't standardized until much later, and it was very much like Old English where every spelling was right and everyone just had approximations of spellings. It wasn't until Lope K. Santos (I think?) that we had a standard system for Tagalog. Rizal also had one, I believe, which became the basis for Santos' Abakada later on.
