143 member nations of the UN General Assembly voted in favour of Palestine’s full UN membership.

It is the first step, but final approval comes from the Security Council.

Last month, the US vetoed a Security Council resolution tabled by Algeria. It says it will do so again.

So what difference might the backing of 143 nations make?
