The counter-protestors at #UCLA included a large number of bona fide antisemites. Their only care for Jewish safety is how to exploit it for political gain.
What I witnessed that Tuesday night chilled me to the bone - one of the men named in this article screamed at me and my colleague that white supremacy will rule and white violence will come. We were standing on the sidelines as observers.
@loshmi I can guarantee you they are doing that. The #BLM protests in Baltimore were infiltrated by Right Wingers. #OWS was as well. I am certain the bad apples are right wing agitators.
@nicholas_saunders I literally stood in front of this man that Tuesday night, as he shouted in fervor at the future coming of white supremacy rule. I have it all on video. So sadly, yes. 😔
@loshmi Not really a reply to this thread specifically, but you are cool as hell for how much you as faculty are taking students seriously as stakeholders in both society in general and the university community specifically. So many lame responses from the mainstream waving away student protests as kids doing dumb kid shit, which is just so frustrating and stupid and even ahistorical.
I took a little road trip to visit my own alma mater's encampment last weekend and I'm just so proud of them.
@theluddite we are trying. one doesn’t have to agree on everything with the students to take them seriously. their perspectives are valid and should be heard. in some ways they are much more sophisticated, careful, and well-thought-out than many of us faculty. i have a lot of respect for them.
