I find myself watching more #CDramas and #KDramas. This post is the result of me wondering why that is. And my conclusion: Hollywood has lost its creative spark.
@liztai I read your blog post and I agree with you. Actually, I had a very similar experience, because it was "Games of Thrones" that made me move away from Hollywood and HBO. I was put off by the gratuitous skinship and graphic violence.
When the pandemic hit, I somehow fell into watching "Serenade of Peaceful Joy" on YouTube and after that I fell down the rabbit hole of Asian dramas. There are plenty of issues there too, but I prefer them now to western dramas 🌸
@liztai Exactly! The level of graphic violence in that show was ridiculous. Asian dramas have their issues, too, but at least they don't revel in unnecessarily explicit violence. I wouldn't want to guess why it seems that such shows can earn so much money ...
@Sollenbum I had to apologise for the previous comment cos it's full of autocorrect silliness but I think you got the gist 🤭 I hinestly think that hinted violence is enough because it's bad enough. And I never understood why sex scenes were so graphic either. The hinted at scenes in cdramas and KDramas made it far more romantic
@liztai No worries! We are all used to compensating for autocorrect errors plus I'm a teacher so I am well-trained in ignoring such things 😄 I agree with you entirely on both counts. Less is more ❤️
@liztai They have for years.Honestly western storytelling is so empty. Since the Marvel Movies it's stupid black and white/ culture wars with stories that feel completely void.
It's not satisfying. I want satisfying stories that make my heart race with characters I can connect with.
