Let's say my father's experience lead to terrible generational trauma and it's honestly why Mom and I are homeless right now while my brother is happily in a large $400k house and has no idea she has #dementia

@SabiLewSounds I don't talk much on here (yet). But I guess in a way, I'm re-learning how to "village" online -- or perhaps I never learned in the first place & am learning for the first time. It's fun.

I'm late-self-diagnosed autistic. I only recently (about a year and a half ago) came to the realization and since have been connecting a lot of dots for myself. One of these is friendship. I told a friend today that the best thing Facebook has ever done for me is to show me all the friends I didn't actually have. The way FB was marketed initially, I thought it was this great new way to become closer to people. So like, if I and a petson shared a table that one day in the school cafeteria and I liked our conversation, I might add them on FB and then be really confused that they didn't respond or comment on my posts, etc. It seems silly now. But it's also sad.

Oh yeah, I never made friends growing up, my understanding of friendship has always been something deep and substantial
One girl is HS - which to explain to most people I called a best friend - was probably close to being a friend? Soon enough they got a bf and then a gf and our closeness never grew
FB always felt like a business deal for me since I added peers from college since it started as a college onlg thing...
One person in my whole life felt like a real friend, I felt like I could let all my masks down - they ghosted me when I got evicted and honestly I shouldn't have ever trusted them as much as I did
These days looking back I wonder if they were being who they thought I wanted them to be until things got too real? Idk it's weird
Anyway, I'm ND but mostly bc of my CPTSD - real me is buried under the rubble
@SabiLewSounds I grew up without it too. I just turned 39. I first heard about it when I was in college in 2006.
I added college friends. Some highschool friends... Really the friends that stuck were my bestie, online acquaintances, the occasional family member...
Highschool was rough on most of us. My best friend lived in a different state than I. At school I thought I had friends until they ultimately decided I was too "clingy" and turned on me. Good times! /sarcasm
@ishe Oh man... The easiest years of my life were HS. My father left us rf alone, we had food and shelter, I did art, music, writing, ceramics all for free, played video games, watched anime, dreamed of changing the world.
Honestly, I didn't care about making friends. A lot of people who called me friend kinda just took me for granted. Idk, the worst of my life was my father, a married groomer guy a few years ago and relentless poverty.
@SabiLewSounds I attended a Christian academy and before that was homeschooled by my parents. A lot of my peers seemed to think I chose those things for myself. I did choose the Christian school. I had never attended "real" school before as I was homeschooled from Kindergarten - 9th grade. I was 14 when Columbine happened. I was terrified of the public school system. I don't know that I made the correct decision going to the Christian school. But I don't regret that as much as I wish I'd had more understanding to base my decision on.
@SabiLewSounds the Christian school didn't have an art program. Music was pretty much just choir -- no student played or was taught to play any instrument. I took HomeEc -- but they didn't have access to a kitchen or any of the things a HomeEc class needed, so it was just a glorified Wedding Planner class... The highlight was the fact that it was all girls in the class so the teacher decided to show us a film on birth... It showed everything... Absolutely nothing left to the imagination.
