Folks, I hope you are all prepared for an incredible #GUADEC2024 because it is going to be great. I’m so stoked. I hope we can do Denver justice in just the few days most people will be here, but I think between the talks, location, and social events, we will do pretty well. 😁

I'm a bit torn: I wanna meet y'all F2F again, but that's a lot of carbon footprint to be able to do hallway discussions for fun… as for preparing a talk, I guess I could talk about various things superficially (er, performance optimization happenings across apps in the past year or so? project turnarounds again?), but dunno if that's "fresh" enough.
@nekohayo I think that could be interesting, still! But yeah, Montreal is quite the haul. I wish our massive North American continent could get rail sorted out, because the only realistic options are flying, a multi-day road trip, or taking a 2-day bus route across most of the US.
@cassidy@nekohayo At least from Michigan I could do a Wolverine to California Zephyr combo, would be about 26 hours vs. the 3 hour flight (plus another 3 for check-in, travel, and security time). It would have about 5 times lower emissions taking the train though and might be kind of fun.
@cassidy I'd love to go. Would probably need a sponsorship, but also it would stretch my vacation time real thin so I'm not sure yet. What's the deadline to apply for sponsorships?
@flyingpimonster I'm not sure—I don’t think that’s been announced. I do know that sponsorships are more likely for folks who volunteer and/or present a talk, though!
@fizzyizzy05 the GNOME Foundation typically provides sponsorship (and block booking for accomodations) for speakers and some Foundation members who couldn’t otherwise afford to attend—you could always submit a talk? 😅 Technically it’s hybrid this year, though, so we should have good livestreaming and whatnot for the talks.
