DocTellMeMore,

The Cubs are going to finish 1 or 2 games out of the playoffs, depending on the results of the meaningless last day. While blame goes to all parties, this season highlighted the deficiencies of David Ross:

  1. He rode the bullpen to death as he has a small circle of trust. I remember games in July/August when the Cubs were up 4 late and he still went with his 3 guys instead of developing other options.

DocTellMeMore,
  1. He continually puts veterans batting horrifically in the lineup over giving young players a chance. Think Trey Mancini/Tucker Barnhardt.

  2. His in-game decisions leave a lot to be desired. He loves his bunts and hit and runs, but more often than not, the Cubs run into outs.

4)His lineups are curious as they seem to avoid optimizing matchups and he doesn't make adjustments until someone has been in a prolonged slump.

DocTellMeMore,

I believe a better manager would have made up a game or 2 and gotten this team into the playoffs. Ross cost this team many more games than he won. Remember, he had no managerial experience of any kind when he was hired in 2020. The Cubs need to move on from him.

(Yes they need to add more talent too, but a managerial change is a high necessity).

@DocTellMeMore I feel your frustration with the Cubs but Ross is just interchangeable with a lot of other managers. The real person to blame is Hoyer as he did not give Ross enough talent to work with. Every managers makes weird choices and inexplicable strategies. If they had made the playoffs, nobody cares about any of that. 🤷‍♂️

DocTellMeMore,

@grmpyprogrammer

Hoyer deserves blame too. I think managers can make a small difference in the standings - 5 games or so. With as close as this team was, I think Ross righly deserves blame

@DocTellMeMore To finish up my thoughts, you need your best players to be your best players. Bellinger and Swanson came up really short in the last two weeks. The manager cannot do anything about that.

When I look at the Jays, they almost missed because their best players were not their best players.

I don't disagree
