@nukehavoc Fantastic! I was a kid in the 80s in Jersey, too. Thankfully, I played it slower and safer on those, but only cos I wasn't a daredevil/risk taker. But my dad was and I'm glad he never got injured. I would only scrape a little skin on the mountainside track carts once in awhile.
We also learn more about Shaidar Haran, the Hand of the Dark, in this book. Fans often debate whether he is a very powerful Fade or the Dark One himself. What is your head canon?
@TarValonNet A fragment of the Dark One's essence, personified as a Fade. An attempt to become tangible, with perhaps an incomplete connection to his consciousness, or perhaps not.
#Alt4You : Book cover for Lord of Chaos featuring Aiel desert warriors facing off against men in black that are channeling the One Power, a form of magic, to call fire and lightning.
@TarValonNet The horn is a diagnostic batch script used to call lots of processes at once for a short time. Originally designed for load testing, it was found to come in very handy for dealing with the periodic system instabilities that arise in the simulation from time to time.
@TarValonNet Back when I was a teenager reading the series it was definitely Rand, followed closely by Lan.
These days it's probably Moiraine. Mostly just comes down to who I associate with better. I'm certainly not the young hero, but maybe I could be the wise mentor trying to navigate the kids safely through the world.
@TarValonNet I've probably mentioned it before, but I think my favorite moment from The Eye of the World is when the group all comes back together in Caemlyn. That reunion has always felt bittersweet in my re-reads.
We don't often mention the River of Souls short story, which focuses on a specific Forsaken's journey - have you read it? What are your thoughts on this short story?
#BrandonSanderson wrote this anime-inspired Korea/Japan-like setting romance novel during the Covid days. It's got #BodySwap shenanigans like #YourName, but in a sci-fi /fantasy setting. The romance plot and focus on fantasy jobs was inspired by #FinalFantasyX.
Unfortunately, even if it's a standalone novel, it requires understanding the basics of Hoid and the #Cosmere to understand the full context, so not a good first book of his to start with.
@anianimalsmoe oh very cool! When I finish my cosmere read through I will def read it. I am always very, very interested in ojous outside of anime. And I'm enjoying Sanderson's stuff!!
Although the people living during the Age of Legends knew only peace, Lews Therin Telamon mentions that social issues may have been bubbling 'under the surface.' What is your headcanon about the social issues that existed in the AoL?
@TarValonNet
Just extrapolating from what I know of modern-day humans, I imagine that the knowledge of and access to the mirror worlds through the portal stones would have left us making use of that power to exploit the natural resources - and perhaps the human resources - of those worlds.
