elgordio,

Yeah this has been going on for a long old time on /r/dwac_stock. Lots of ‘diamond hands’ buy the dip’ etc… that said I expect a bunch of folk ended up making some decent cash when it went public, but anyone holding now is just asking to be a bagholder.

elgordio,

The jury’s job will be to decide whether Trump violated New York State law by attempting to hide the payment to Daniels as a business expense.

Where things get super tricky is that because this case is being prosecuted as a felony rather than an misdemeanour, the jury must decide that the attempt to hide the payment was in the furtherance of another crime.

The statute of limitations had passed to prosecute as a misdemeanour and in any case maybe that wouldn’t have been considered significant enough to prosecute anyway. So it was decided to up the charge to a felony, which is going to be a tough bar for the prosecution to get over.

This case is far from a slam dunk, and IMO is the weakest of the four, and for that reason the fact it is happening first may not be a good thing at all

elgordio,

One of the problems Amtrak is facing at the moment is a lack of rolling stock. The author notes that the California Zephyr was running full. It’s also running a shorter consist that it would have traditionally because of a lack of units. Increasing the length of the consist, assuming the engines can pull it, would reduce the emissions per seat. The ridership demand is there, the investment into Amtraks stock is, sadly, not.

elgordio,

Thanks for the informative reply and the references. Very interesting!

elgordio,

There are two tiers of side quests in cyberpunk. Gigs and full on side quests. The gigs are all pretty short ‘go to place, shoot / rescue someone’ stuff but the main side quests are generally more involved, including all the romance options etc.

The gigs can be skipped without missing much, but skipping the side quests misses a ton of story IMO.

elgordio,

Interestingly when austerity was being pushed in the early 2010’s one driver was the claim that having more than 90% debt / gdp ratio would cause a country to go into recession.

Turns out though the report this claim was based on had an Excel error in its formula which when corrected would have shown an ~2% growth. Amazing how such a small error can have a such huge implications.

Hannah Fry had an episode about it on the BBC. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/m001r1s4

elgordio,

Usually interest free for 3 or so months. Pay 1/3 a month.

OpenAI hits back at Musk, says billionaire pushed for merger with Tesla (www.reuters.com)

OpenAI on Tuesday hit back at Elon Musk’s claims that the startup abandoned its original mission with emails that showed the billionaire supported its plan to create a for-profit entity and wanted a merger that would make Tesla its “cash cow.”...

elgordio,

IMO the fines are made to sound scary, and are relevant for large corpos, but the ICO or whatever body for your country, has no interest in prosecuting an individual. What is a ‘percentage of revenue’ on something that makes no revenue anyway.

Even if they did take interest it would start with an opportunity to correct things before prosecution.

RE: Is Ernest still here?

I check in here quite often, but for now, I'm just focusing on clearing spam and keeping the instance alive. In January, I was working on the AP module, and there has been significant progress in the work, which hasn't been publicly published yet. Unfortunately, at the beginning of the year, I developed a skin condition that...

elgordio,

Thanks for the update Ernest, and best wishes for your health to improve.

elgordio,

Hopefully some competition will improve things. If this gets off the ground it can only be good for prices and service. https://www.euronews.com/travel/2023/10/12/evolyn-the-high-speed-rail-startup-with-mystery-investors-coming-for-eurostars-crown

elgordio,

It works on high speed lines in Spain, where you’ve got Renfe, SNCF and Trenitalia all competing for business between Madrid and Barcelona. Also in Italy where Italo and Trenitalia compete head to head on a bunch of route. London/Paris isn’t that much different.

elgordio,

Trump increased the average felony charges per president to 2.

Trump: 96
All other previous presidents combined: 0

elgordio,

Most notable thing about this game was it was one of the first to launch with FSR3 frame generation. Other than that I think I’d have completely forgotten about it.

elgordio,

Planes and shipping are ‘only’ about 2% each, they’re far from the biggest polluters. For the big polluters you’ve got road transport, agriculture and industry etc…

elgordio,

While YouTube doesn’t commission, much, content it does store disproportionately more data. A streaming site has maybe 1,000,000 hours of content. That amount of content is uploaded to YouTube every day. It’s a totally different business model.

elgordio,

Burger King has started charging for mayo, the one near me in leeds anyway :(

elgordio,

Seems like an interesting spin on what is basically ’random’. Probably a decent way to get content in front of users that might be outside their normal recommendations.

Is it some essential new feature, no, it’s just a bit of fun to find some new content.

elgordio,

If I remember rightly the clip features a weightlifter who’s trying to jerk some ridiculous weight. They go to lift and their arms just detach from the shoulders leaving their arms behind as the guy stands up.

elgordio,

US domestic ‘first class’ is pretty comically named. It is technically the best class available but it’s pretty similar to premium economy on an international flight.

There are a few airlines / routes that do better but the majority are not what you might expect for ‘first class’.

Mark Zuckerberg indicates Meta is spending billions of dollars on Nvidia AI chips (www.cnbc.com)

Summary: Meta, led by CEO Mark Zuckerberg, is investing billions in Nvidia’s H100 graphics cards to build a massive compute infrastructure for AI research and projects. By end of 2024, Meta aims to have 350,000 of these GPUs, with total expenditures potentially reaching $9 billion. This move is part of Meta’s focus on...

total expenditures potentially reaching $9 billion

I imagine they negotiated quite the discount in that.

Is there somewhere adults can speak to someone in times of crisis?

Something like that kids help phone thing but for adults. I’m specifically looking for a website I saw posted somewhere weeks ago, I don’t remember the name, it was a free website where you could speak to someone - I don’t believe it was necessarily professionals. Apologies if the info I have is inadequate and thanks in...

elgordio,
