@Pilirin@kbin.social

single father with full custody who's name is on the title of the house he lives in. mid-40s, slim, not an addict. nerd.

Pilirin,

@XxTriviumxX i'v left automod configured to remove most spam, anything that gets reported more than 5 times, and post a stickied comment onto every post telling people where the mod team has gone. those comments get downvoted to oblivion, and i give absolutely zero fucks whatsoever. my job is done.

Subject33, to kbin

What is kbin?

Pilirin,

hi @Subject33 this is my account on https://kbin.social and i am making this comment from there

Pilirin,

my almost-9yo demonspawn of a son has his last day of school for the term today and has organised sleepovers during the break. that means that i have to go with him and sleep on the floor as well. did i mention that it's the middle of winter?

Pilirin,

uhm, probably by him asking to arrange a sleepover and the other person saying yes. it's hard to imagine when they can't talk yet, but eventually children develop quite sophisticated reasoning abilities, and by "eventually" i mean before they are 8 years of age. all you gotta do to encourage it is accept whatever answers they come up with for questions that they face.

Pilirin,

kbin wasn't federated yet when we jumped. as far as i'm aware i made my kbin account like 6 hours after federation, because i did that as soon as i heard that there was a different UI

Pilirin,

i'm from australia. australia is a federation. this country is made up of six states and a number of territories. the six states are all still legally distinct entities with their own individual laws that do not impact residents of other states. to be able to be part of a larger country tho, our different states need to comply to another, higher set of rules that are decided by our federal government. it is theoretically (but not legally) possible for a state to be ejected or to leave the federation in which case they won't have to comply to the federation-wide rules any more. for example, the country of New Zealand has had a standing invitation to join the australian federation ever since colonies on the australian mainland started talking about declaring statehood and then joining up in a federation, but those smart bastards have always told us where to go and where to tie our horse up when we get there. the fact that they've literally always had better conditions (eg women being allowed to vote and own land) might have something to do with it

Pilirin,

50 books later you will thank me

Pilirin,

audacity. that shit was mature in the 1990s.

Pilirin,

lol yeh they came after one of my subs ... that i had made public a few hours ago. i'm going to leave programming in automod that tells people where the sub's new home is

/kbin server update - or how the server didn't blow up

Currently, on the main instance, people have created 40191 accounts (+214 marked as deleted). I don't know how many are active because I don't monitor it, but once again, I greet all of you here :) In recent days, the traffic on the website has been overwhelming. It's definitely too much for the basic docker-compose setup,...

Pilirin,

@ernest your achievements with this piece of software is going to go down in internet history, i hope you know that. you have already written your name into the history books. you deserve congratulations and very sincere thanks.

Pilirin,

no, i think of a weird-shaped elephant with ginormous tusks that curl almost into a circle

Pilirin,

i'd be happy to help you out with that if you would like someone from a different timezone than you. am australian so is awake when most of the rest of the planet sleeps

Pilirin,

nope. with the amount of time they've been down there so far and the volume of space inside the thing, they would have exhaled enough CO2 to have all at least lost consciousness if not suffocated

Pilirin,

@xuxebiko this is a decision of the entire board of directors

@Gamers_Mate

Pilirin,

the ability to dynamically filter search results, if that's at all possible (it's not with lemmy's interface currently)

Pilirin,

yep, looks like the admins are now overtly taking action and stamping their authoritah

exactly the same way that catman does

The best way to protest against reddit is simply to not interact with Reddit

I see a lot of posts about how they uploaded anti-spez stuff onto reddit, or participated in the nsfw spams/john oliver spams. While I get wanting to let it all out, this ultimately keeps up engagement on reddit rather than bringing it down....

Pilirin,

the only reasons i'm looking at my reddit window currently are to check modmail (one of my subs is currently restricted but i'm accepting requests for member status) or to check r/modcoord and r/Save3rdPartyApps and other protest subs. i made a promise to the subscribers there when i took control of it from being unmoderated, and i'll keep that promise to them until the end of the month, but i'm also going to leave quite a bit to remember me by, namely i'm going to configure automod to at least attempt to get rid of most of the spam as well as make the sub effectively unable to be monetized. would rather fly under the radar until that's in place tho

Pilirin,

he'll get axed before the company goes public and they'll put some nameless suit in the role instead. i rekon calling out the entire corporate section might have been better, but then again huffman was one of the three founders so i dunno

Pilirin,

not as far as i'm aware. i know about discord servers (that i'm not a member of) where discussions are happening, but as far as i'm aware the majority of planning is happening either in the protest-centric subreddits or in this magazine right here.

i gotta admit, there has been a lot of arrogance and a lack of consideration of consequences by lots of people involved in this on all sides

Pilirin,

yikes, fuck that. i mod my subs because nobody else is willing to, not because i have any fucking desire to do so

Pilirin,

i have made a point of paying for music that i DJ with for over a decade. bandcamp as a website has been a huge part of that. it's bloody amazing.
