Sorry, was what the website returned as the title and I didn’t see it until after posting. Edited now.

This has seperate Intel i226-V NICs, so it’s not all on the CPU, but I guess the actual throughput would need to be tested.

@mrmanager tagging users in the top post doesn’t work. Only in comments.

Admin approval with some text that needs a little bit of thought to fill out is surprisingly effective and definitely slows down spammers a lot.

Sure, it will not totally prevent it and they can move to another instance, but if all the nicer instances enable it, it becomes much easier to defederate the badly run ones that don’t.

Phonebooks with home addresses? I don’t remember that existed. Which country is that?

I mean, sure… names and area-codes made it relatively trivial to figure out the home address, but it wasn’t printed in them.

Edit: ugh, I think I just misremembered. Getting old sucks.

poVoq,
@poVoq@slrpnk.net avatar

Hmm maybe I misremember. Has been probably 30 years since I last touched a phonebook.

Reverse-proxies are not necessarily limited to HTTP, but you can set up SSLH in Opnsense to do something similar.

But for SSH you would usually log into one machine and form there do a second SSH connection to other servers in the local network.

If you like our communities so much, you could also create an account on slrpnk.net 😊

But yeah, two smaller instances with not much overlap in interests by their users tend to not federate well and you need to go the extra mile to search out the communities and subscribe to them.

I don’t think Gamescope uses Kwin, but Valve could certainly add similar support to Gamescope.

Water is running again, ram pump installation year 2 (slrpnk.net)

A couple of years ago I built two ram pumps and installed them in the stream near my house. They pumped water for the garden for a few months during spring and summer. I’m okay with the fact that the pumps are just useful during part of the year, but didn’t really like damming up the entire stream for my installation, seemed...

Please share some pictures of the actual pumps. Ram pumps are a fascinating topic. I always wanted to build one myself, but I don’t have a suitable location where I live right now.

Indeed the part where it explains that models might be over-corrected for it not happening is quite worrying.

I am still making my way through it, but this is a very comprehensive overview so far.

From solar to EVs: With China's overproduction and state subsidies, the US and EU are working to ensure that their clean-energy sectors aren't wiped out by unfair competition (www.dw.com)

Beijing’s industrial subsidies are on average three to four times higher than in Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) countries — sometimes up to nine times as much. A report published this week by IfW-Kiel estimated that industrial subsidies amounted to €221 billion or 1.73% of China’s gross...

Well, except that is was cheap Russian gas and not coal. Otherwise spot on.

what will be my next server operating system (Fedora Server, Fedora CoreOS, NixOS), your experience and opinion

I want to reset my server soon and I’m toying with the idea of using a different operating system. I am currently using Ubuntu Server LTS. However, I have been toying with the idea of using Fedora Server (I use Fedora on my laptop and made good experiences with it) or even Fedora CoreOS. I also recently installed NixOS on my...

Fedora Server works well, and the Podman integration is great.

I guess it is the boring option, but probably the best when coming from Ubuntu.

the EU and UN have been funding them [Hamas] directly.

This is completely false and vile propaganda.

BTW, ending the suffering of the innocent palestinian civilians is easy: just ask Egypt to open their border and let the refugees in (like Poland did with the Ukranian for example) and help them (EU could also help Egypt to take care of them eventually). This way who remain in Gaza is fair game and the innocent civilians are safe.

You realize that you just openly advocated for ethnic cleansing?

There is some argument for doing spaced repetition as homework for memory heavy learning like vocabulary for example.

poVoq,

While I agree that these “refugee treaties” that aim to retain refugees in unsafe 3rd countries (like Libya) are a human rights violation, it is simply wrong to call refugees “illegal” immigrants. Both national asylum laws and international ones (Geneva Convention) clearly recognize refugees as legitimate.

Furthermore, criminalizing immigrants that don’t fall into the narrow legal refugee statue, for example “climate refugees” is absolutely counter-productive and also a human rights violation.

You are not going to solve shitty government decision by switching to crypto-currencies. All you will achieve with that is to prevent potentially good decisions in the future. Or to put it differently: crypto-currencies are deeply undemocratic.

And yes it is wage-theft in any way you can look at it because after inflation they earn (nominally) more from the same labor you put into it, but are not (nominally) paying you more. So in very real terms they are paying you less for the same labor. There is no need to beat around the bush on that one, it’s as clear as it can get.

poVoq,
@poVoq@slrpnk.net avatar

Look, I don’t think we will come to an agreement if you make excuses for wage-stealing bosses and claim that a tool used for massive fraud and theft is somehow “mitigating” anything. You are just looking for a scapegoat for shit that capitalism does without realizing that the scapegoat you chose is just one of many parts that make capitalism so shit, and that crypto-currencies are part of the problem.
