When I first heard about it, I genuinely thought it had to be a fake story. And now I wish it was.

Got it. Deleted it.

Just out of curiosity, I poked my head in and saw they’d sent the same message directly to my Reddit account. “Oh, that’s… gross,” I thought. Then I looked around at the subs I used to frequent, and realized I felt like I was getting cancer from them.

It’s amazing how much I don’t miss Reddit.

Even if it is, it’s rude as hell to let the animal poop there, and ruder still not to clean up after it.

Never having played Borderlands… is the game actually this unapologetically stupid? I chuckled at a few bits in the trailer, but I felt bad for doing it.

No worries, seems to be gaining traction and still makes me go WTF, so I’ll allow it.

I have a trans kid. I worry every single day about cases like this.

Same as their past: Get-rich-quick schemes, outright scams, massive wastes of electricity, criminal funding tools, investment instruments that aren’t backed by actual companies making anything (and are therefore 100% speculation)… and sometimes some interesting technology.

@kescusay@lemmy.world avatar

Who claimed that only applies to crypto? Don’t attribute to me things I never said.

kescusay,
@kescusay@lemmy.world avatar

I’m hearing something like “puerrrapleuh buerrragluerrr alarrrum.” Do I have that about right?

kescusay,
@kescusay@lemmy.world avatar

Well, I’m a software developer who knows way more about science fiction and fantasy than I really should, and if you get me drunk I’ll probably tell you all about how Sauron is an ainur and therefore didn’t actually die when the One Ring was destroyed - since the ainur can’t die - but he did lose all his power and henceforth existed perpetually as a powerless and intangible shadow…

And when you wake up, I might still be talking.

kescusay,
@kescusay@lemmy.world avatar

Oh, he is. The Maiar are “lesser Ainur” in Tolkien’s cosmology. They’re “of the same order as the Valar but of less degree.” “Ainur” is kind of an umbrella term, the way “angel” is in Christianity.

Melkor, now known as Morgoth after being cast out, was once a Valar, but his cruelty and evil make him the foe of all of Arda. Mairon, a Maiar of Aulë, actually started down his own path of evil as a lieutenant of Morgoth, becoming Sauron.

Sleepy yet?

Lol! Yeah, I can imagine. But for me, I didn’t need the boredom of jail to read the Silmarillion.

Early on, the Russian asset released some genuine information in order to establish some bona fides. But since then, he’s used his platform to create nothing but instability and strife. Never forget, the “pizzagate” bullshit came directly from WikiLeaks.

kescusay,
@kescusay@lemmy.world avatar

WikiLeaks published them out of order, lacking context, and with clear intent to have them used as the basis for some kind of conspiracy theory. And they started publishing them literally 30 minutes after Trump’s Access Hollywood “grab 'em by the pussy” tape came out: politifact.com/…/its-true-wikileaks-dumped-podest…

WikiLeaks made “pizzagate” happen, and is clearly a Russian asset.

Copilot isn’t actually bad for developers, it’s just that you need to be careful with it and recognize its limitations.

Writing a bunch of REST endpoints for an API and need to implement all the typical http verbs, and you already have all the matching methods for reading, updating, and deleting values in a complex SQL database for each endpoint to call? Copilot can turn a ten minute chore into a ten second one. Very handy.

Writing those complex SQL methods in the first place? Yeah… Copilot will probably make a ton of mistakes and its work will need to be triple-checked. You’ll save time just doing it yourself if you know how. (And if you don’t, you have no business calling yourself a developer.)

Copilot is best for easy boilerplate and repetitive code. Problems arise as soon as you ask it to get “creative.”

kescusay,
@kescusay@lemmy.world avatar

Yeah, I figured that out eventually, but also figure the same probably applies to the other Copilot. Same underlying technology.

Wish Microsoft would use different names for different implementations.

It’s more like you get some kind of weird construction multitool that promises to be a level, a drill, a hammer, and a dozen other things, and it turns out to be a really good, innovative, and helpful level… and a really bad everything else.

kescusay,
@kescusay@lemmy.world avatar

Well of course they’re drifting back to him. Sure, he’s a criminal, a con artist, an incredible liar, a puppet of Vladimir Putin, and a direct threat to the stability and viability of the United States of America… but he’ll cut their taxes a little bit more! And in the end, isn’t that what’s really important?

Besides, with all the extra savings, they’ll be able to afford better bunkers and security systems as the outside world descends into Purge-like chaos.

kescusay,
@kescusay@lemmy.world avatar

Yeah, but that kind of nullifies his campaign argument that he doesn’t need anyone’s financial help, doesn’t it.

Turned out it was plastic, if I recall correctly.
