I think it’s unnecessary. Everything can just happen in this community imho.

Certainly looking forward to the tournament though. The Euros are actually better than the World Cup, in my personal opinion as an American soccer fan.

If squids can turn transparent, why do they bother with all the colors and camouflage? Maybe it’s just because they like to show off

Thinking about my koala community again even though I had been feeling a bit down lately, and dealing with probably too much email (lemmy.world)

At this time, I have been feeling a bit down and is why I haven’t being doing much with the koala community I had created here. But now I’m thinking about it again and had been wondering how I would incorporate a koala comfort place into it where one could talk about concerning things that may also be worrying things. I’m...

It sounds like you should definitely start filtering your emails. 200/day is way too much.

You shouldn’t feel any pressure about posting more, it’s already a very nice community about koalas. But I am also looking forward to whatever you want to share in the future.

Well said. As someone who is going to vote for Biden to keep Trump out of office, I harbor no ill will towards leftists who choose to reject the whole charade. One way or another, we need to bring down the system, and I don’t see any evidence that voting for centrist democrats is likely to incrementally move us towards a better system.

On the contrary, it seems more likely to me that Trump would potentially accelerate the evolution of society by fucking everything up so badly that we would have no alternative but to make radical changes.

However, given that I am unable to be certain of the future outcome of each timeline, I believe that voting for Biden minimizes the risk of a worst case scenario. But again, I don’t approve of shaming leftists for abstaining, because the reality is that both parties are colluding to maintain the status quo, and ultimately if Trump wins the election its not the voters who will be to blame, but the Democratic party for failing to produce a credible challenger.

Thank you for sharing that; I also consider myself a radical moderate. In the context of a decadent and degenerate society, the term makes a great deal of sense.

Wow, this is so dystopian. Late stage capitalism at its finest.

Btw if you can’t get past the pay wall, add “12ft.io/” in front of the URL and it should bypass.

imaqtpie,
@imaqtpie@sh.itjust.works avatar

Oh cool. I’m using Firefox and I didn’t even realize that. Good tip 👌

imaqtpie,
@imaqtpie@sh.itjust.works avatar

First click the link. Then manually type 12ft.io/ in the URL bar, before the https://

I’m honestly not sure how it works because it doesn’t work when you share the link, but if you type it manually it does. Works on all sorts of sites too, but some sites have already opted out. Honestly the Firefox reader view that the other guy posted is even easier and more useful, assuming you use Firefox.

Somebody should make a sticker out of this. I’d buy it.

This is a useful guide for formatting stuff on Lemmy.

Links are formatted like [text]_(link), except there is no space between the brackets and parentheses.

Every lemmy post and comment should have this button that I circled, assuming you’re using the web interface. If you click that, it shows the actual formatting of the post or comment so you can see how it was done. Like this

This is very strange, I can still see many of the posts from the community at various URLs, especially from viewing your account page. But the community itself isn’t showing any posts when you view it directly.

round of applause

Well done sir

The Wee Free Men? I need to read more Terry Pratchet honestly, I remember reading that book as a kid and it was amazing.

If the inventor was known to be hubristic and reckless, it could be poetic justice. Otherwise, I think ironic is the best descriptor.

Btw, here’s a historical example of this happening.

Cool!

There was an instance at lemmy.beyondcombustion.net in the first few months following the API exodus, but it went down at some point. I presume the admin lost interest/motivation.

That situation definitely disrupted the establishment/growth of an active vaporents community on Lemmy. I’m sure there are plenty of ents on Lemmy and I think communities about trees are nice for bringing people together, as opposed to some other communities on Lemmy (mostly political stuff) that can push us apart at times.

P.S. You have a slight typo; it’s vaporizing, not vaporizering 😁

I love my Tinymight 2. Great all-rounder vape, highly recommend.

Wow, that’s a powerful piece of writing. Good content.

Yeah it’s pretty creepy but also surprisingly wholesome

You’re the one making a lot of assumptions based on what was originally a shower thought. It’s a nice thought but it’s completely and utterly incorrect in reality.

My kids are real life examples demonstrating that huge investment, while good for the individuals, does not reduce the cost or burden of them to society later in their life.

This isn’t an assumption, it’s a data point that contradicts your hypothetical theory.

The fundamental flaw in your thinking is your assumption that treating mental illness and disabilities will result in the person becoming a productive member of society. This is occasionally true, but much more commonly, the treatment serves to alleviate the more severe symptoms of the condition, without actually curing or fixing the condition.

Healthcare is primarily about minimizing the damage and suffering caused by various physical and mental ailments. It can’t magically transform people into something they’re not.

From what I can tell, !coolguides has a fairly rigid set of rules, with a specific distinction made between guides and infographics. That’s great, I like when moderators take an active role in curating the content of their communities.

But I would guess that !coolguides is possibly a response to those rules. Basically if your post got removed from the lemmy.ca community because it was technically an infographic, you could post it to sopuli.xyz community instead.

That’s my understanding of the ecosystem, without having spoken to any of the people involved.
