Me, being brought into a multi-vendor multi-day P1 incident because I’m good at Windows:

“Has anyone looked at the Windows logs?”

Narrator: They had not looked at the Windows logs.

Post-credits scene: The error was in the Windows logs.

@SwiftOnSecurity Do Windows still support hibernation? I have no idea where they put that option.

@mjg59 Qt has an acceptable interface, so it's doable.

The amusing thing about how popular #instagram is that it doesn't even deliver notifications (such as comments and mentions) consistently

Like, how is #Facebook still a company

antnisp,
@antnisp@mastodon.social avatar

@larsmb But using Instagram without notifications is the best way to use it.

Anyway as an update to my Linux catastrophe earlier today,

After my roundtrip of "apt install fuse" "discover this actually uninstalls fuse3 and installs fuse2" "install fuse3, thus uninstalling fuse2" all these VERY important looking packages (all of qt6…?) now appear in apt autoremove as set for removal. What should I do about this, and how can I ensure my next apt autoremove doesn't remove critical system components existing software depends on?

antnisp,
@antnisp@mastodon.social avatar

@mcc I don't see how this can be a noop without the package manager looking on older transactions and trying to roll them back. Now that would be cool but as far as I know it's not done by mainstream distros.

antnisp,
@antnisp@mastodon.social avatar

@mcc I guess the variable is the way big interconnected packages like qt6 are packaged and how "generous" the recommends are.

Of these:

  • 14€ were declined
  • 70€ payment fees
  • 50€ platform fees
  • 30€ payoneer fee
  • 20€ disappeared (?)
    I received 448€. And I have to pay taxes on that, btw

I don't actually believe in those heritage DNA tests people take, but I choose to believe in this one because it's funny:

One of my relatives did such a test and found we had no 'Greek' or 'Cypriot' DNA, rather it was traced to present-day Syria.

@mattblaze But gold is much more durable. When the crisis hit Greece there were reports of people having their cash eaten by mice after having hidden it in Tupperware.

    I emigrated because I really didn't like life in my birthplace so I have a very skewed perspective, but why do the myriads of quite well-off USians whose social media presence boils down to "the US are irredeemable", not emigrate as well? This is curiosity not criticism.

    Is it the work permits? Fear of not living where you're not speaking the language? Are they just venting? Is there nowhere better for them?

    antnisp,

    @BradRubenstein Enough that they are an electoral concern the same way German Turks are for Turkey.
