#Bevy #RustLang I need some help. I'm trying to implement orbiting spaceship movement kinda like Eve Online. It works.. but the positions slowly drift apart as they continue orbiting, instead of remaining stable.
Anyone got any ideas?
I've already exhausted my knowledge by 1) normalizing all vectors and 2) making the actual update code dependent on delta time. This improved things a lot, but it's still an unstable system.

Here's my hacked together code: https://gist.github.com/ThunderComplex/74ddd3549cb71855d0b343d11fe5512a

ThunderComplex,
@ThunderComplex@musicians.today avatar

@ilmai Thanks. But honestly, this bit of rubberduck debugging has made me realize that I can even get away with not even using real positions at all, thus eliminating any need for orbiting mechanics.

In C++ 26, we’re getting foe classes!

Foe classes are defined like so:

class Madoka {
  foe class Walpurgisnacht;
};

and doing so will allow those classes to battle!

How do they battle, you ask? They are able to arbitrarily delete each other’s instances in the heap using the fight keyword, like

fight Madoka;

This action will delete a random instance of class Madoka.

Won’t this cause memory leaks? Of course it will, but if you didn’t want memory leaks you shoulda used Python.

ThunderComplex,
@ThunderComplex@musicians.today avatar

@astrid Wouldn't it be more fun if, in the above example, "fight Madoka" would cause all instances of Madoka to fight with all instances of the marked foe classes and the smaller (as in taking less space on the heap) ones get deleted?
But, for additional fun, the sizes are summed: If there are 3 smaller instances of Madoke whose total size is greater than one instance of Walpurgisnacht, "fight Madoka" will delete all instances of Walpurgisnacht instead.

LMAO just got recommended what I'm pretty sure is an AI written article on how to download and install a cracked version of Serato DJ, complete with DL Links, on LinkedIn. Complete with a step to turn off all your antivirus because "antivirus detects cracked software as a threat" 😂

Anyway, whoever's dumb enough to use that link, enjoy your malware!

Was reading an interview I did with Tommy Wiseau (of The Room infamy) and realized he talks just like Trump: lots of word salad, jumping from one disjointed idea to another and back seemingly at random, interjecting lots of praise for himself, starting and stopping an answer at weird points... A couple of differences, tho:

  1. Wiseau is notably less racist and misogynistic (and if you've seen The Room, you'll know that is saying something 😅)

  2. Wiseau is not a native English speaker 😂

it's called IPv4 because there are 4 octets (like A.B.C.D), and it's called IPv6 because there are 6 octets (like A:B:C:D:E:F)

ThunderComplex,
@ThunderComplex@musicians.today avatar

@astrid Then why is ffff:0001 IPv6 if it has 2 octets hmm??? /j

ThunderComplex,
@ThunderComplex@musicians.today avatar

@astrid Sry I am dumb I forgor the tone indicator

ThunderComplex,
@ThunderComplex@musicians.today avatar

@astrid Wait the variable count octets part wasn't misinfo tho, right? Just the variable sized octets is wrong IIRC, yeah?

ThunderComplex,
@ThunderComplex@musicians.today avatar

@astrid Ok I'm definitely too distracted and blabbering bullshit atm, sorry :D
Definitely thought that because :: means expand to 0s it counts as having a variable count of octets because you can just omit as many as you'd like (as long as they're 0s)

And I just straight up didn't even question the 6 octets part in the original post haha 😂 I'm still laughing at myself how I just overlooked that part

@mikey (Assuming you're talking about Steam and Steam Link)
One is the desktop Steam client as a mobile app.
The other allows you to play your games from your phone on your PC.

help? the rustc docs mention "-C instrument-coverage=except-unused-generics" but the code only has yes or no?

docs: https://doc.rust-lang.org/rustc/instrument-coverage.html#-c-instrument-coverageoptions

code: https://github.com/rust-lang/rust/blob/eff958c59e8c07ba0515e164b825c9001b242294/compiler/rustc_session/src/config.rs#L130-L144

what am I missing?

I've been a skeptic, and even a cynic, for as long as I can remember. Like, since high school. I've basically always considered nearly everything I'm offered to be some kind of scam...and, look, I'm sure I missed out on a few things because of it.

But I have to say, it's undoubtedly paid off well in the past decade, and I can't help but notice more and more folks coming to the same conclusions...

Welp. It's official. is no longer

While I wasn't a contributor to the core, I presented on it dozens of times, talked to thousands, and wrote a book about it.

I probably wouldn't have done any of that with that kind of license.

Very disappointed.

ThunderComplex,
@ThunderComplex@musicians.today avatar

@linux_mclinuxface So I read this RSAL thingy and this one struck me:
"You may not make the functionality of the Software or a Modified version available to third parties as a service or distribute the Software or a Modified version in a manner that makes the functionality of the Software available to third parties."

So I may not distribute a modified version that makes the software available to 3rd parties.. does this mean that forking redis is illegal???

ThunderComplex,
@ThunderComplex@musicians.today avatar

@linux_mclinuxface Yeah I noticed that, despite being relatively short, it's really hard to comprehend. It definitely goes over my head.

you look at NES games and you're like "that doesn't look too hard, that scope looks achievable to a small modern indie team with modern gamedev tools"

and then you try to execute on it and it takes literal years because making games is actually literally impossible

ThunderComplex,
@ThunderComplex@musicians.today avatar

@eniko Not me, I instantly jumped to the 3D era thinking "eh Resident Evil looks really easy to imitate, I can get it done in no time".

Gave up on the project but I have a newfound respect for solo and indie devs, making games is 100% impossible and those that actually do it alone are gods amongst men.

sheet music is so fucken hard to read

ThunderComplex,
@ThunderComplex@musicians.today avatar

@astrid Yeah I have no idea. The fact that you'll have to rigorously study and practice sheet music for years and decades to be able to sightread it in my opinion means the system is imperfect and we could do better.
I just have no idea how a better system would look like.

People complain about inter-instance drama on the fediverse and, yeah I get it. It's super annoying when a bunch of people you don't know get into it for reasons you don't care about and it affects your social space. It does suck!

But the fediverse is a network of social spaces containing millions of people, owned and operated by a bunch of regular people, and people are messy so sometimes things will get messy on here. It sucks, but it's inevitable. Expected, even

To be honest given all that I'm kind of shocked how smoothly things seem to go for most of us on here most days

ThunderComplex,
@ThunderComplex@musicians.today avatar

@eniko I think that due to the relatively high barrier to entry (e.g. having to find a preferred client and instance) and low incentive to join (small user base, can't make money from ads) people and admins in the fediverse are just way more chill. So I'm not totally surprised that things are going quite smoothly.
I could also be totally wrong in my assessment who knows 😀

Went on a 2 hour round trip bus ride (4 buses total) to a part time job interview.

Interview was less than 5 minutes. She didn’t read my availability on my application that says I’m not available past 4pm. She needs someone to work until 10pm. Waste of time.

Got an intro to getting on and off buses. First and second time were rough, but by the 4th bus I was a pro.

Today was an adventure, but not the fun kind of adventure with plushies. It was draining. All the noise and bumps. Overloaded.
