SeaJ,

He has pretty consistently sided with Natives on issues that affect them.

Transgender swimmer Lia Thomas out of Olympics after losing legal battle (www.theguardian.com)

The US swimmer Lia Thomas, who rose to global prominence after becoming the first transgender athlete to win a NCAA college title in March 2022, has lost a legal case against World Aquatics at the court of arbitration for sport – and with it any hopes of making next month’s Paris Olympics....

SeaJ,

On HRT, trans women have similar muscle mass to cis women. They do not have an advantage.

SeaJ,

Of it was simply numbers, there would have been a trans gold medalist by now. Trans people make up 1-3% of the population. Over the span of 20 years and hundreds of competitions each year, surely a group that supposedly physically dominates the gender group they are in would at least have gotten one gold medal.

SeaJ,

Aside from height? Not really.

SeaJ,

Honestly I thought it was here. It definitely already was in Seattle. I have not seen styrofoam for drinks outside of the South for over a decade.

SeaJ,

I think I have seen crappy styrofoam coolers a couple years ago for 4th of July. Those at least are meant to have containers inside of them. Drinks though, especially acidic ones, are nuts to put in styrofoam. That shit breaks down pretty easily which means it is going straight into your drink.

I’ve had the Double Down because it was an absurd idea. Mine tasted like an entire shaker of salt.

SeaJ,

OMG. I completely forgot they used to come in those. It’s like “let’s not just have this very degradable plastic have really salty food in it, let’s go ahead and add some water and microwave it.”

I wonder why we are finding micro plastics in people. /s

SeaJ,

Not sure about Imposible but I’ve had Beyond sausages and they are delicious.

SeaJ,

Odd. I think that same thing with Impossible burgers. There was a while where Beyond changed their formula and it had waaaay too much salt. We just did Garden Burgers instead and still avoided Impossible. I recently got some Impossible burgers because Costco didn’t have Beyond. They are pretty bland and the texture is off. Beyond has a bit of a grilled flavor to them.

That’s not to say that all Impossible burgers that I have had sucked. Most of the ones that I have gotten at restaurants have been pretty indistinguishable from beef burgers. There have even been a couple where I am damn near certain they simply gave me beef.

SeaJ,

That reminds me that I have to get that tub of MSG from the Asian grocery store down the street. Safeway has some under a less obvious name but it is $7.50 for a tiny amount.

SeaJ,

Minimum wage here in Washington is over $16/hr ($CD 22/hr) for all workers. Some states have minimum wages that are not completely terrible.

SeaJ,

They were going to put him in a mental hospital and the best they can do to say sorry is a $25 gift card…

Maybe list all of the people they owned too. Robert E Lee personally beat one of his slaves do bad that it made the newspaper. The overseer, whose generally did the beatings, refused to do it because they thought it was too harsh. Plus he was a shitty general. No idea why that piece of shit is revered.

SeaJ,

I wonder why the guy thought the kid was going to rob the place? Oh…he was brown.

SeaJ,

The report says Climate Action 100+ “bullies asset managers to join” and presses them to use their shareholder votes in support of climate proposals, seeking to reduce fossil fuel extraction and raising energy prices for U.S. consumers.

Going to guess that they cite fossil fuel representatives as the source for the bullying claims.

Don’t Call It an ‘Ethnic’ Grocery Store: As Asian groceries like H Mart, Patel Brothers and 99 Ranch expand, they are reshaping American eating habits, and the American grocery market (www.nytimes.com)

Last year, Americans bought half a billion packets of Shin Ramyun, the spicy, beefy Korean instant noodle. The bold red-and-black packaging feels inescapable: It’s a staple of college dorm rooms, bodegas, middle-of-the-country Walmarts and viral TikTok videos....

SeaJ,

Hadn’t heard of H Mart until about 15 years ago when they opened one in the University District here.

Researchers find higher levels of dangerous chemical than expected in southeast Louisiana (apnews.com)

Researchers using high-tech air monitoring equipment rolled through an industrialized stretch of southeast Louisiana in mobile labs and found levels of a carcinogen in concentrations as much as 10 times higher than previously estimated, according to a paper published Tuesday in the journal Environmental Science & Technology....

SeaJ,

Maybe we should not allow companies to self report.

And Republicans will still act like crime is at an all time high because all they watch is Fox News and Newsmax.

SeaJ,

First OS was MS-DOS on a Tandy. First Linux distro was Knoppix.

The Dreamers of a decade ago are today teachers, nurses, journalists, lawyers — but still lack US citizenship (english.elpais.com)

The DREAM Act was introduced in Congress in August 2001, and has still not been approved. This law would allow 3.5 million undocumented young people who arrived in America as minors to regularize their situation...

SeaJ,

There is little chance of getting something passed. There are not enough non MAGA Republicans to get a bipartisan bill passed. There should have been something passed during Trump but Tom Cotton convinced Trump to veto it at the very least second to the surprise of everyone.

SeaJ,

It would be nice if they did that for the Democratic primaries.

SeaJ,

They did not override that one. Sanders did not even win the non superdelegates. That’s not to say the 2016 Democratic primary was not fucked. Party officials clearly had a preference and were obviously pushing Clinton. Showing the super delegates planned counts before they actually voted made it seem like Sanders had no chance. They need to minimize the number of super delegates so that they can only decide really close primaries.

SeaJ,

He paid people to go to his first presidential run announcement so why change things up?
