Why aren't more releases x265?

Nearing the filling of my 14.5TB hard drive and wanting to wait a bit longer before shelling out for a 60TB raid array, I’ve been trying to replace as many x264 releases in my collection with x265 releases of equivalent quality. While popular movies are usually available in x265, less popular ones and TV shows usually have...

RvTV95XBeo,

GPU encoders like NVENC run their own algorithms that are optimized for graphics cards. The output it compatible with x265, but the encoder is not identical and there are far fewer options to tweak to optimize your video.

The output is orders of magnitude faster but (in my experience) objectively worse, introducing lots of artifacts

RvTV95XBeo,

Seems a bit bulky to carry around with you everywhere you go. Does it even have Bluetooth or do you need a USB adapter to connect it to your phone?

RvTV95XBeo,

Hopefully that’s a little more difficult with a Democratic Senate

RvTV95XBeo,

With 10x the tracking, and “AI” to scan your files to help “optimize” your experience?

RvTV95XBeo,

For some reason, it wasn’t taken. Some people are just lucky, I guess.

RvTV95XBeo,

Not sure why you’re being down voted. Rental cars exist and can be a better option that spewing emissions 360 days/year just so your can take your one long vacation, that isn’t really even that long…

Realistically though, a 200 mi trip, even if op lives in Alaska, is going to be at most 1 stop, and only if it’s really really cold.

RvTV95XBeo,

an extra 2 grand to throw at rental cars for 10 days.

Who’s your rental car guy? You need a new rental car guy.

RvTV95XBeo,

Just tossed 1/8 cord of firewood in the back of my EV6, and it’s pretty easy/common to toss a tree on the roof of a car. How often are you getting mulch?

RvTV95XBeo,

So 3 big hauls a year? 2 of which could probably be done with most mid-size or larger cars, and one that could be handled with a $20 home Depot pickup rental annually? You’re probably spending quite a bit more in gas than you’re “saving” by not just renting a pickup for those 1-3 needs annually.

RvTV95XBeo,

“Almost impossible”, aka produced by the billions for RGB displays. Harder then R & G? Sure. Almost impossible…?

RvTV95XBeo,

Irrelevant. I want to know what their father smelt of.

RvTV95XBeo,

And disqualified from ever owning so much as a paintball gun if their first instinct on hearing a loud noise is spray and pray.

RvTV95XBeo,

Nor is there much in the way of standard height or direction. As cars keep getting taller, those of us not in the Child Crusher 350 or whatever are getting blinded by tall headlights & those that don’t point down enough.

There very much needs to be significant standardization & enforcement on off-standard kit jobs.

RvTV95XBeo,

Did you try making the thing go like gestures “uh” then gestures “uh”? That way it’ll be gestures, you know?

How do you name your lights?

I’m having hard time finding names for the different lights that make sense when I ask my voice assistant to control. I end up with ceiling light, but I have more than one ceiling light, and saying Living room ceiling light is a mouthful. I tried giving funny names but I keep getting confused which is which. How did you name...

RvTV95XBeo,

I’ve got the same setup. It’s usually , e.g.,

Bedroom sconce left, or kitchen overhead 3.

It’s rare that I want to control just one bulb, so groups work for most situations, and scripts solve for specific scenarios like going to bed or watching a movie.

Is creating an online bibliography a waste of time?

I love research, and I feel like having all of the sources in one place would save someone writing a paper a lot of searching. Even if it never becomes a widely used website, I feel like it could just be a project I could work on to keep myself busy. Then again, you could always just use the reference section of Wikipedia....

RvTV95XBeo,

+1 for contributing to Wikipedia. Most effective way to put your research hobby to good use! You can help expand, improve, or even simplify Wikipedia articles and also provide additional citations where you find new and interesting technical content.

How is it possible for this track to have so few plays on Spotify? (lemmy.one)

I noticed that the track “Canon (Primo)” by Justice only has 5,815 plays on Spotify, even though every other track on the album has millions of plays. How is this possible? I know it’s just an interlude track that you wouldn’t listen to unless you’re listening to the full album, but still, this play count seems...

RvTV95XBeo,

Thought this was a sick burn, until I realized the track length.

RvTV95XBeo,

Dark + Night is one of my current faves.

RvTV95XBeo,

I can get rid of mine…

For an extra $50/month

RvTV95XBeo,

It would not be crazy if that was the top of the list, that should be a deciding factor, which is what will make it crazy when instead the things that push people over the edge are TayTay and her friend Mary Jane.

RvTV95XBeo,

For some reason, my Firefox with ublock removes all of the mobile ads from pages I visit. I miss finding it about all of the hot singles in my area.

RvTV95XBeo,

Knee-oh-chee

RvTV95XBeo,

Look, I was on board until you started throwing out made up words like preternatural, victual, and indefatigable, then I knew you were pulling my leg.

RvTV95XBeo,

Clearly pronounced in-de-fa-tee-gable
