My three children have all played and beat Metroid Dread on just about all the difficulty levels. They loved the game and Hollow Knight. My seven year old was just struggling to get a game out of his Switch and I asked what was stuck to which he replied “Metroidvania”.. I thought it was funny at least. #Nintendo

New Jlin, it’s been a few years. I was surprised to see this new release. I’ve only listened to a few tracks but it’s a super creative variation of the footwork style she thrives in. Break neck changes, lots of melodic variety. There’s also a welcome edge to the sound.

I'm listening to Mannequin Pussy from Philly but I didn't know them. Excellent 90's alt sound mixed with interesting melodic choices. Touches of shoegaze here and there in the guitar squall. I’m kinda disconnected from rock as a whole and having a group this excellent right under my nose and not knowing is testament to that.

https://youtube.com/watch?v=mH3BWXrdkcQ&si=H_Lkro2Cnef1PtNP Holy shit, more rad punk! First song has the lyrics “I just want to quit my fucking job, I just want kill my fucking boss, I just want to be alone”. Ripping stuff and I hate the word ripping.

Spectral Evolution | Rafael Toral https://rafaeltoral.bandcamp.com/album/spectral-evolution Rafael Toral at his finest still doing what he does best. I haven’t heard too many improvisers that can create the same tonal energy he’s able to craft out of the languid, ever flowing tone clusters he coaxes out of his gear.

Trench warfare is a nightmare, AZOV clearing trenches here. I don’t now how effective these documents are as propaganda pieces but the production is Hollywood like in its presentation. At the end of the day, brothers killing brothers when they need to turn their weapons toward their leaders that have collectively led them all into this unwinnable war.

I follow many Telegram channels from all sides of this conflict. I did so during the uprising in Syria as well. These are all propaganda agents but they do provide a deeper perspective into these parties.

I know that lots of folks here don't like Bluesky (and I understand most of the reasons why), But now that it's open, I tried to explain the reasons why I am excited about it and hope it succeeds. https://www.techdirt.com/2024/02/06/bluesky-opens-up/

I find a whole lot of the below and folks asking for money because of this or that hardship. I’ve also found interesting things to read as well but there’s a whole lot of distracting noise that seems to take precedence over meaningful communication.

Games in the Hockey Night in Canada window always have such a different energy regardless of who’s playing. Flyers at Winnipeg as well as the Oilers at Montreal last evening. I love an early Oilers game being a fan in Philly. #HNOM

Since, my last post ended up in a long thread about the pros and cons of sports, I'm curious, what is your family and personal history with sports?

I'll go first! My Dad grew up in a Sport's household. His Dad, my grandfather, was obsessed, and he wanted his sons to be too. My grandfather was tall with an athletic build like a swimmer, but he married a very petite 4'8" woman, who never weighed over a hundred pounds. Both my Dad and his Brother were average height with a slight build, neither played sports or were good at it when they tried. Not liking sports became my Dad's rebellion. He became a preacher instead, his Dad grew up in a Preacher's family, and hated it. When I was growing up, my Dad always pushed intelligence and spirituality over physicality, we only had a game on if my Grandfather was there. I got a little of both my parents, I've always been small and plump, what science calls a dumpling (please don't fact check this). I enjoyed group activities and non competitive sports. For instance I played volleyball (very poorly), but only enjoyed it if I was on the B team, and had no pressure to succeed in it. I did go through a brief period where I pretended to be really into sports, because I thought it would impress boys. I'd watch just enough to get highlights. I was basically like Moss in I.T. Crowd. Did you see that ludicrous display last night?!

@LittleTokyo@shakedown.social avatar

@RickiTarr I like sports and the skill that they involve but hate the almost religious orthodoxy fans apply to simply enjoying many of them. My father loves sports and though I didn’t hate them I grew liking other things more. As an older human I tend to enjoy them at my own speed and leave nationalist aspects to other lovers of ‘the game’, whatever game that might be.

I know that the Canadian Football League played a game in Philadelphia around the same period but wasn’t aware that there was a west coast equivalent. Pretty interesting and I can’t even begin to imagine what the American football fan of 1957 thought about the rules. The game out east had people scratching their heads. #CFLOM

My thanks to the Hamilton Tiger-Cats organization, all the volunteers, and especially all the fans who have made this Grey Cup Festival a lot of fun. Even wearing Argo gear around town, I haven't heard the traditional statement about the Argos that much; the Sask band was cheered in the Winnipeg party, the fans everywhere are getting along just great, celebrating this game that we all love.

This #CFL video from 15 years ago still chokes me up. This is OUR league.
