Realized the other day that we still had a subscription to the streaming service Starz that we haven't watched in ages. Cancelling it required clicking through SIX different "Are you sure? Are you really sure?" pages. Awful dark pattern shit that I can't imagine actually retains that many subscribers, surely?

First it asks you why you want to unsubscribe. Picking "nothing good to watch" may have been a mistake on my part.

@mcchessers That last extra haggle... does it actually help them to have it there? Or does it just spur people on to get the hell away from a service which would have gladly charged that 1.99, never telling their customer about the existence of the cheaper option?

IIRC HBO pulled something similar when I cancelled - though only one offer. My reaction at the time was fully "Wait, you could have given me a discount this whole time?! Can I get an option to cancel twice?".

@AngryAnt It certainly leaves a bad taste the mouth and lowers my opinion of the platform as a whole, making me less likely to ever resubscribe.

Presumably you can't keep threatening to unsubscribe every three months and taking the 99 cent offer.

interface > . I didn’t care one way or the other for a while, but honestly, the fact that GTV collects your last-watched show from every one of your streaming apps - , , etc - and puts them all into the handy Continue Watching bar, whereas FireTV only collects this info from and (for some reason), is so damn convenient. For the moment, purely for this feature alone, I’ve swapped from to the built in GTV interface on my TV.

Didn’t really need to do this but I’ve caught the streaming bug. #Verizon have a deal where you can drop $75 on a year’s sub to #STARZ (not particularly thrilling) BUT that gets you a year of premium #Netflix for free! Which is $240 value. So we did it and now we have Starz, Netflix, #AppleTV+, #Hulu, #Disney+, #ESPN+, #PrimeVideo, #Crunchyroll and #YoutubeTV. God.

Started watching #Outlander last night from the hotel room with the #FireStick latched onto the Wi-Fi. I could happily spend the rest of the year, maybe even the rest of my life, just watching show after movie after show. I don’t want to go back to work. 📺📺📺
