Zoom in to street level to see the 3D features.

@metin big wow. Is it only coming from OSM data? Are the colours of walls and roofs based on material or colour? I wonder if this crane in my area is really there

metin,
@metin@graphics.social avatar

@aloxe Good questions. I don't know the answers. 😊

    @jpmens @opencage Yes, and it's real-time. I just saw your car being stolen. 😉

    opencage,
    @opencage@en.osm.town avatar

    @jpmens @metin even better - the cranes at construction sites actually lifting things.

    wonka,
    @wonka@chaos.social avatar

    @jpmens Are there bikes too, or people walking? Trains?

    @jpmens Looked just now, and as I suspected... Traffic is only cars.

    @metin @opencage

    opencage,
    @opencage@en.osm.town avatar

    @wonka @jpmens @metin yes, that's unfortunate. Hopefully they can add bikes to bike lanes

    wonka,
    @wonka@chaos.social avatar

    @opencage And walking persons to footpaths. 😃

    @jpmens @metin

    @metin@graphics.social avatar

    @wonka @opencage @jpmens You only see cyclists and pedestrians if you've got an NVIDIA GeForce AI Hype Supreme Extreme Expensive Edition model. 😉

    Such a nice demo, I loved! Only thing is all trees in an Amazon forest are palm trees 🤗

    @gavg712 😁

    uneabeille,
    @uneabeille@en.osm.town avatar

    @metin Is this a 3D model that was imported for this renderer? Looking at the tower in iD, I can't imagine that it would have this level of detail if mapped with the usual 3D building standards for OSM. Very impressive either way!

    metin,
    @metin@graphics.social avatar

    @uneabeille I don't know the tech behind it, but it is impressive indeed.

    cubeofcheese,
    @cubeofcheese@mstdn.social avatar

    @metin I'm confused. Is this 3d data in openstreetmap already? Or is the 3d data being added on top of open street map. My confusion mainly comes from the fact that this is a company's website plus that I've never seen open street map data in 3d elsewhere

    metin,
    @metin@graphics.social avatar

    @cubeofcheese Good question. I hope it's a demo of future OSM features, and not just some random experiment by someone.

    i_martinw,
    @i_martinw@chaos.social avatar

    @metin The wall they built in the meantime around it is missing.

    metin,
    @metin@graphics.social avatar

    @i_martinw Someone else also mentioned that. I didn't know about it. It's been 24 years since I last visited the Eiffel tower.

    i_martinw,
    @i_martinw@chaos.social avatar

    @metin It looks great now 😏

    metin,
    @metin@graphics.social avatar

    @i_martinw 😔

    Heliograph,
    @Heliograph@mastodon.au avatar

    @metin the little moving cars make it so different from regular 3d rendered maps ;D

    metin,
    @metin@graphics.social avatar

    @Heliograph Yes, it makes the map feel like you're looking at streets in real-time 3D.

    @derickr@phpc.social avatar

    @metin It's so easy to see which bits I've mapped... As I added the colours and roof shapes in :-)

    pthane,
    @pthane@toot.wales avatar

    @metin What's the point? Without showing hills and valleys it just looks weird.

    metin,
    @metin@graphics.social avatar

    @pthane There's a "Show elevation" option in the top left menu, but I haven't tried it yet.

    paulee,
    @paulee@mastodon.social avatar

    @metin even with tiny cars :D

    derickr,
    @derickr@phpc.social avatar

    @paulee @metin And rain, if it happens to rain in the area you're looking at.

    metin,
    @metin@graphics.social avatar

    @paulee Yes, and much more details. Cemeteries show grave-stones, and much more. But the amount of visible detail might depend on the capacity of your graphics hardware.
